Camp Verde considers leash laws Print E-mail

The Town of Camp Verde is looking at adding leash laws to its rules governing animals on town property.Camp Verde City Council recently discussed changes to the town’s animal code regarding pets. The new rule would make it mandatory that pets be on leashes in public, as demonstrated by Jack, a 6-year-old German Shepherd owned by Lynn White.

Last week, the Town Council continued a discussion about the issue at its Wednesday, April 16, regular meeting.

Town may rename Finnie Flat Road Print E-mail

The Camp Verde Town Council opened discussion last week about whether or not to change the name of Finnie Flat Road to Main Street.When headed toward Camp Verde from Interstate 17 along State Route 260, Finnie Flat Road is the first road that will take drivers into town. Finnie Flat eventually turns into Main Street, and Main Street continues until it intersects again with State Route 260, forming a big horseshoe. Camp Verde is  contemplating renaming Finnie Flat Road to Main Street.

The Camp Verde Planning and Zoning Commission has been working on adopting “character areas” for the town, places where planning is considered based on a particular area’s identity and feel.Planning and Zoning recently met to discuss how to define Camp Verde’s downtown area. This includes the Historic Downtown section, where Fort Verde lies. A subcommittee was formed to focus on character development.

The South Verde High School Booster Club is selling raffle tickets. Any proceeds beyond the cost of the prize will go to support the club’s activities.South Verde High School’s Booster Club is raising money to send a family on vacation. In addition, the club works on not only bettering their school, but the community as a whole. Jennings moves north after surgery removes a tumor Print E-mail

Robert Jennings wants to eventually retire in the Verde Valley. He’s also happy that’s an option. A few months back, Jennings went to the doctor with some discomfort in his side.Born and raised in Tucson, Robert Jennings worked as a contractor, but after having surgery to remove a kidney tumor, he said he was looking for something a little less strenuous. Jennings and his wife, Lauren, decided to move to Camp Verde, where Lauren’s mother already lived. Today, Jennings wears an Arizona State Parks uniform as he greets visitors and helps out with other work at Fort Verde State Historic Park.

Yavapai College is reorganizing its presence in the Verde Valley as part of a 10-year plan approved by the college’s board of directors in December.Yavapai College discusses its 10-year plan with Camp Verde’s leaders, and Town Councilwoman Carol German was among them. German was involved with the college when classes were taught in Camp Verde. The college used Town Hall as its campus.
