The Town of Camp Verde will implement a 3 percent tax on food starting Monday, Dec. 1.Dan Bramwell loads groceries into his truck after shopping at a Camp Verde grocery store. Camp Verde Town Council voted to remove an exemption on food sales taxes.

The measure comes after a 4-3 vote by the Town Council at its Sept. 17 meeting.

The cake was absolutely delicious.World Rhino Day aims to bring awareness to the five remaining species of rhinoceros, all of which are threatened or critically  endangered. Out of Africa Wildlife Park also used the event to  celebrate its current rhino Jericho’s 18th birthday. A special “cake” was prepared for Jericho, composed of alfalfa, molasses, horse treats and topped with a carrot “candle.”

At least that was the takeaway, if Jericho’s reaction to it was to be believed.

Wills brings her passion for food to Main Street Inn Print E-mail

Lynne Wills hopes to see Main Street Camp Verde get some more traffic.Lynne Wills and a crew of folks have been working for months to get The Montezuma Inn, which has been a fixture in Camp Verde for more than a century, ready for business. Wills hopes to open possibly as soon as this Thursday. In addition, Wills also manufactures her own laundry soap, which she hopes to eventually sell in the restaurant.

Not because Wills necessarily wants to have to wait a bit longer to cross the street but because she would like to see more business in the area.

Camp Verde commemorates 9/11 Print E-mail

The flags were placed along Main Street, a red, white and blue reminder that towns across the nation remember the attacks of Sept. 11, 2001.Camp Verde Fire District firefighter J. Gable rings the bell at Camp Verde’s Ramada, Striking the Four Fives at the beginning of the 9/11 memorial put on by the American Legion, then again for each war our nation has participated in.

It happened 13 years ago but for many it seems like just yesterday.

Anita Villalobos was at the book sale last Thursday, held in the Rio Verde Plaza shopping center, where proceeds go to benefit the Camp Verde Library.Originally from New Mexico, Anita Villalobos has been in the Verde Valley for about four years. Before that, she spent 40 years in Phoenix, where she worked in the newspaper business. At first she worked in the newsroom, but eventually moved to the finance office for the paper.

Villalobos was there to help benefit her kitchen.
