Town gets new logo for 150th Print E-mail

It’s not everyday one gets to celebrate a 150th birthday.Camp Verde will turn 150 years old next year. While the logo shown has been used in the past, the town is calling for submissions from local artists and graphic designers for a new emblem to be used with promotional materials for the sesquicentennial, with the winner receiving a $250 prize.

Camp Verde’s 150th, or sesquicentennial, is technically in 2015, marking the anniversary of when the first Anglo settlers came from over the mountain.

A recent study paints a difficult future for fish in the Verde River if current conditions continue unchanged.Antonio Hernandez fishes from the dock of one of Dead Horse Ranch State Park’s lagoons with daughter Ali and son Tony. The park’s lagoons are fed by the Verde River, and a new study done by the University of Washington indicates the river’s fish could be in trouble.

Rich Bentley’s father got him interested in working with his hands at a young age.Rich Bentley’s father got him interested in working with his hands at a young age, and he worked at a large auto shop in Phoenix. Bentley enjoyed the work, but an injury he suffered forced him to stop. Coming back to the Verde Valley, Bentley created a mobile cooking station devoted to making tacos.​

“He used to build gyrocopters,” Bentley said. “He was also a kickboxer.”

The Town of Camp Verde is once more attempting to move forward with construction of a new library.Camp Verde Town Manager Russ Martin, fourth from left, addresses the Town Council and the audience on the issue of the new library project. The new library hit several road bumps, mainly due to cost and budget concerns.

The Camp Verde Town Council looked at options for the new library, including financing, at its Aug. 27 meeting.
