Things were smelling pleasant last week in the parking lot of the Outpost Mall on Finnie Flat Road, as volunteers with the local Kiwanis Club unloaded more than 200 Christmas trees in preparation of the annual tree sale.Lynn Sweitzer, Raven Martinez and Pat Schultz, from left, run the annual Kiwanis Christmas Tree sale Thursday, Dec. 5, on Finnie Flat Road in front of the shopping plaza in Camp Verde. Martinez was the recipient of the Kiwanis Scholarship to Yavapai College, so she was eager to help.

The Montezuma-Rimrock Fire District and the Camp Verde Fire District are finalizing efforts to share services.Jake Cecil, Tanner McDonald and Jon Hilton, of the Camp Verde Fire District, left to right, may soon be joining forces with another neighboring firehouse. The CVFD is currently looking at combining its reserve forces with those of Montezuma-Rimrock Fire District and sharing services.

Communities and governments in the Verde Valley are in the process of finalizing agreements to widen State Route 260 between Cottonwood and I-17 in Camp Verde.shortly outside of Cottonwood on State Route 260 heading towards Camp Verde, a four-lane highway bottlenecks down to two lanes, one in each direction. Eventually, at milepost 218 — as the speed limit significantly drops — the highway opens back up to four lanes. A proposed SR 260 widening project would make the entire stretch between Camp Verde and Cottonwood a four-lane divided highway, similar to State Route 89A between Cottonwood and Sedona.
