Lisa Mina wanted to reach for the stars. The wish started at a young age.Lisa Mina dreamed of becoming an astronaut. Instead of going into space, Mina went into education. Originally teaching math and science, today she works as the Camp Verde Unified School District’s librarian.​

“It started after watching a man land on the moon when I was 5,” Mina said.

The Camp Verde Unified School District Governing Board is turning to the Arizona School Boards Association for help in the search for a new superintendent.The Camp Verde Unified School District Governing Board holds meetings in the school’s library. Currently, they are replacing outgoing Superintendant Amber Lee. From left are Helen Freeman, Tim Roth, Bob Simbric, Bob Weir, Danny Howe and Amber Lee.

The effort was discussed at a meeting Thursday, March 12.

The Montezuma-Rimrock Fire District is today a professional organization dedicated to serving the community.Eddie Lodge was a longtime resident of Rimrock and founded the Montezuma-Rimrock Fire District. When he died, he left a sum of money he wished to be used to install more fire hydrants in the area.

In the beginning, though, it was just a group of neighbors looking to help protect each other.

Flooding has hit several low-lying areas of the Verde Valley. A flash flood warning is in effect for Monday, March 2, and a winter weather advisory is set for elevations above 6,000 feet.Oak Creek temporarily claimed several RV lots at Sunrise Resort’s Page Springs campground on Sunday. The water level is about two-feet deep on the post for lot 54, where RV owners plug in for electrical service when camping. A few days of rain in the Verde Valley funneled into the creek, swelling it beyond its usual boundaries. About the time this photo was taken, an Arizona Department of Transportation truck was parked on the shoulder of Page Springs Road and its driver was taking a look at the bridge and powerful current beneath it about 100 yards downstream from the RV campground.
