Casino preps for big wine tasting

Published:

Cheers.

This weekend, people are invited to an event that celebrates the area’s wine industry.

So raise a glass at Cliff Castle Casino’s Stargazer Pavilion Saturday, Oct. 17, and toast to the fruit of the vine.

It’s the fourth annual Taste of the Verde Valley, set from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m.

Wineries from the region will share their latest work with the public.

“[The casino] actually came up with this event as a way to recognize the industry,” said Mark Nelson, a marketing analyst with Cliff Castle Casino. “It’s a big wine event.”

Nelson said that the organizers had been working to get wineries to commit to the festivities.

Of course, wine goes great with food.

Patrick Jochim, the casino’s executive chef, will be showing off his culinary work, food intended to be paired with the wines made here.

There will also be music.

While this is the fourth year of the Taste of the Verde Valley event, it’s the second year the event will be hosting the painted wine barrel auction.

Each year, local artists decorate wine barrels for display along the Verde Valley Wine Trail.

The trail helps provide visitors a map to experience some of the best the wine industry has to offer locally.

The barrels are often seen at those tasting rooms and wineries.
