The recall election for the Camp Verde Town Council has been set for Tuesday, Nov. 3.
It’s only a recall against Vice Mayor Bruce George.
Mayor Charlie German expressed his reluctance but acknowledged that the town has a legal obligation to hold the recall election.
The recall effort, spearheaded by local resident Cheri Wischmeyer, originally sought to recall German along with council members Robin Whatley, George and Jessie Jones.
All four initially targeted in the recall effort voted for a sales tax increase in January.
The new rules raise transaction taxes, which include the retail sales tax along with a number of other economic activities, from 3 percent to 3.65 percent.
Then-Vice Mayor Jackie Baker voted against the measure, along with council members Carol German and Bradford Gordon.
The organizers didn’t collect enough signatures for German, because recalling the mayor requires more signatures than other council members.
Enough signatures were collected to recall the remaining candidates, but after a review by the Camp Verde Town Clerk’s Office, some signatures were disqualified for not meeting the legal requirements.
