The Camp Verde Planning and Zoning Commission has been diligently working for months to update the town’s general plan.
The general plan is a roadmap of sorts, a set of guidelines outlining where residents and officials would like to see the town at moving forward.
The town crafted its last general plan a decade ago and wants bring its goals for the future in line with current thinking about that direction.
“The Town Council and Planning and Zoning Commission use the general plan to evaluate land use changes. It is used by town staff in reviewing building and development regulations and preparing recommendations on projects,” according to a report from the Camp Verde Town Clerk’s Office. “It is used by citizens and neighborhood groups to understand the town’s long-range plans and proposals for different areas. The general plan also provides the basis for the town’s development regulations and its capital improvement plan.”
The town has been working to define character areas for the town, distinctive areas that can be defined in such a way as to guide future land use and development.
Such places include the Pecan Lane area along Montezuma Castle Highway, Finnie Flat Road, Middle Verde and the area along Quarterhorse Lane.
A subcommittee made up of various residents made recommendations on each character area before turning their work over to planning and zoning, where the commission reviews those suggestions for integration into a new general plan for the town.
