Cell tower proposed for Clarkdale location

Published:

The Clarkdale Planning Commission next month will consider an application for installation of a 65-foot cell tower off State Route 89A.

A site visit for commissioners and an informal public meeting was held Feb. 17 at 1450 SR 89A where the tower will be erected behind Nate’s Cowboy Cafe.

The property is currently a mini-storage facility.

Representatives of the company planning the tower — Capital Telecom — attended the meeting to answer questions from residents and commissioners.

There also was a demonstration of the height of the tower with a tethered balloon.

Capital Telecom is seeking a conditional use permit. The planning commission will consider the request at its meeting Tuesday,

March 17, at 4 p.m. in the men’s lounge of the Clark Memorial Clubhouse, 19 N. Ninth St., Clarkdale. If planners OK the permit, it would then go to Town Council for final approval.

The tower is reportedly needed to fill a gap in cell phone service for Verizon.
