Smith keeps cooking down on Main Street

Published:

Anthony Smith can cook. It’s his job.

Smith is the head cook at the Corner Bistro, a restaurant that opened last year in the old Montezuma Inn building on Camp Verde’s Main Street.

It’s one of the oldest buildings in Camp Verde.

The place first opened around the turn of the 20th century and has been home to several different businesses over the years.

Things have been going well at the restaurant so far, Smith said, though things have slowed down a bit this time of the year.

Smith said he’s been cooking for around 14 years.

Smith has cooked at several places around the area, including Denny’s and the now defunct Gunslingers restaurant.

That place was set up in what’s now an RV park off of Interstate 17, Smith said.

“They were cool people,” he said.

Smith said he likes to cook but since it’s what he does for a living he’s not always ready to do it when it comes to his free time.

“I like to barbecue at home,” Smith said. “I like cooking and being outdoors at the same time.”
