The Cottonwood City Council is looking to finalize the rules governing mobile food vendors within city limits.
The council discussed the revisions at a work session Jan. 13.
Last fall, the council asked city staff to revise portions of the code.
Specifically, the council is looking to replace a section of the code titled “street vendors” with one titled “mobile vendors and transient merchants.”
The change is designed to address merchants like food trucks but needs to be flexible enough to address other types of mobile merchants.
“Mobile vendors are com-monly associated with temporary uses and special events. Where desired as an ongoing use at a specific location, the zoning typically requires a conditional use permit to approve a business operating from a vehicle, cart, tent or similar non-fixed structure, as this type of use is not listed as a permitted use in any zone,” Cottonwood Long Term Planner Charlie Scully reported. “The level of site development associated with an ongoing mobile vendor operation located on private property needs to be considered.”
The city would like to see more options for the public when it comes to dining out.
