Band gears up for a new season

Published:

Strike up the band, it’s a brand new year.

As 2015 gets rolling, so does the Cottonwood Community Band. The band, made up of several musicians in the area, held its first meeting of the new concert season this week.

They met Monday night, Jan. 5, at Cottonwood Middle School.

As always, the band is looking for new members, said Sy Brandon, a spokesperson, member and promoter of the organization.

“We need people to come and play,” Brandon said.

Musicians don’t even need their own instruments. While people are more than welcome to bring their own, donations from the community over the years have provided the band with several types of brass, woodwind and other instruments to play.

The band just finished up its holiday season, with a performance around Thanksgiving.

“December is just crazy,” Brandon said.

Around half of the music was traditional Christmas tunes with other pieces selected to appeal to everyone, listeners and
musicians alike.

That appeal is what the band will be going for in the upcoming winter and spring season, Brandon said.
