The Camp Verde Planning and Zoning Commission is continuing its efforts to define character areas for the town.
Character areas are defined as distinctive areas that can be set in such a way as to guide future land use and development.
The areas have been discussed by a subcommittee before being presented to the commission for further consideration.
Such places include areas like the Pecan Lane area along Montezuma Castle Highway.
Other areas include the Finnie Flat Road, Middle Verde and the area along Quarterhorse Lane.
This month, the commission looked at the Pecan Lane and McCracken Lane character areas.
Community Development Director Mike Jenkins said that the department consistently communicates with the U.S. Forest Service when it comes to land area that they have involvement with.
The Pecan Lane area is defined as encompassing an area from around Exit 289 on Interstate 17 to near downtown, the area of Montezuma Castle Highway where the pecan trees grow that give the place its name.
Much of the area on the east side of the area is managed by the forest service.
