Barbara Hagerman is artist of month

Published:

The El Valle Artists Association’s Artist of the Month for February was Barbara Hagerman, chosen for her watercolor painting “Blue Jay and Friends.”

If there’s one thing that could be said for Hagerman, she likes to change it up. She loves exploring new media and ways to express her creativity. Her painting experience has included oils, acrylics, alcohol inks, stained glass and tole painting.

Hagerman has been a resident of Sedona since 2012. Shortly after moving to Sedona with her husband Jack from Michigan, she learned about local artist Mark Vranesh, who was giving watercolor classes in her community, and this sparked a new interest. She discovered the Northern Arizona Watercolor Society and became a member and a juried member in 2016. She has also served in various board positions with NAWS. Still wanting to expand her knowledge and skills, Hagerman joined EVAA. She said enjoys EVAA because it includes all forms of art media, including watercolor, and is much more diverse in terms of artists.

The Artist of the Month’s art is exhibited at the Cottonwood Public Library for two months, where EVAA has an ongoing exhibit. EVAA artists can now display their art for sale in the cases at the library. Stop by to view the artwork.

EVAA holds its monthly meeting on every second Thursday of the month from 1 to 3 p.m. at the Mountain View United Methodist Church, 901 S. 12th Street, in Cottonwood.

The meetings include a short business session, selection of the Artist of the Month, a preview of the upcoming workshop and a 45-minute program by one of the artists, along with time to enjoy the fun people in the organization.
