Register grasshoppers for basketball by Sept. 25

Published:

The Camp Verde Parks and Recreation Department has announced that registration is open for another season of the highly popular youth Grasshopper Basketball League for boys and girls in first through fourth grades.

Co-ed teams of boys and girls, led by volunteer coaches, are grouped by grade level. They practice one night per week and compete on Saturday mornings. The league is intended to allow kids to have fun, learn the fundamentals of basketball and develop teamwork.

The coaches’ evaluation and draft will take place in the Community Center Gym at 51 E. Hollamon St. on Thursday, Oct. 3, starting at 5:30 p.m. for the first- and second- graders and at 6:45 p.m. for the third- and fourth-graders. The regular season will begin on Saturday, Oct. 19, with playoffs for the third- and fourth-graders beginning Monday, Dec. 2. All players will receive a uniform T-shirt and participation medal.

Volunteer coaches are needed, and coaching experience is not required. Without enough coaches, this program is not possible. A fingerprint background check is required to coach, along with online training provided by the National Alliance of Youth Sports.

Registration is $40 per child and $35 for each additional child from the same family. Register at campverde.sportsites.com/player. If you do not have the ability to register online, stop by the Parks and Recreation office at 395 S. Main Street and we will help you. Scholarships are available to help those in need courtesy of the Kiwanis Club of Camp Verde.
