Yavapai College will be getting just over $800,000 from the state of Arizona for efforts to improve science, technology, engineering and math education, or STEM.
STEM projects have also been funded at other schools throughout the region through other programs with the idea of eventually bolstering the economy.
The state set aside $802,900 in the budget for the new fiscal year for the college.
That money will be used primarily to fund the Career Technical Education Center in Prescott and to help fund the Southwest Wine Center here in the Verde Valley at the school’s Clarkdale campus.
“The Career Technical Education Center in Prescott and the Southwest Wine Center on the Verde Valley campus in Clarkdale present the strongest opportunities for workforce development leading to direct job growth,” said Clint Ewell, vice-president of finance and administrative services for the college. “In support of both programs, the STEM funding will be used for capital expansion and development of both facilities.”
