Clarkdale raises water restrictions

Published:

The town of Clarkdale initiated Strategy II of water restrictions last week as the pump at a municipal well was working harder to refill the town’s water tank.

“It’s based on the water levels in tanks at Haskell Springs,” said Wayne Debrosky, Clarkdale Public Works director. “[The pump] is having a difficult time refilling the tank with the current demand.”

Debrosky said that current levels of water use in Clarkdale are forcing the pump to run longer than usual and taking more time to refill the tank.

“It’s not replenishing the aquifer,” Debrosky said. “There’s no chance for [the pump] to recover.”

The technical name for the new water restrictions is “Demand Reduction Strategy II Water Alert.”

The town was already under Strategy I restrictions, which eliminate outdoor water usage during the hours of 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
