Rainbow Acres building new housing for ‘ranchers’

Published:

Rainbow Acres turns 40 later this year and shows no signs of slowing down.

Rainbow Acres is home to many adults with developmental disabilities who live on the Camp Verde site, off of Reservation Loop Road across from Jackpot Ranch.

The residents are known as “ranchers.”

For all those years, the organization has provided comfortable homes for residents, a backdrop for their ceaseless industrious work in a variety of fields on the site, including gardening, weaving, crafts and many others. Ranchers work in crews at different jobs. The greenhouse crew, for instance, works on growing things like tomatoes and lettuce to supplement the meals served to ranchers in the community dining room.

For years, the ranchers lived in trailers and other modular buildings.
