The Verde Valley Fusion U11 Club Soccer team has come home with gold medals from five of its last seven tournament appearances and is moving up to the gold brackets.
The girls most recently won their fifth championship of the year at the fourth annual Stars and Stripes International Soccer Tournament, March 23 through 25, in Goodyear.
The team won three of its four games in the Phoenix heat and faced a well-known competitive club, the Scottsdale 02G Blackhawks, in the finals.
The Verde Valley Fusion beat the Blackhawks, 3-2, with goals made by Carina Strobel, Felicia Bueno and Jaiden Behlow.
The road to the finals was somewhat more exciting.
