Camp Verde basketball drops game to Badgers

Published:

The Camp Verde High School girls basketball team [13-4] lost to the Prescott Badgers [12-3], 54-36, in its first regular season home game of 2012 on Friday, Jan. 4. The Cowboys had an unusually tough time, unable to the take the lead in the game against the Badgers.

Cowboys team leader Donnie Buss was only playing at 70 percent due to a foot injury she received over Christmas break. The trainer released her to play Friday morning.

“Defensively in the first half, we did a nice job taking care of the things we needed to take care of,” said Mark Showers, the Cowboys’ head coach. “One of the problems we’ve had is we’ll have a few mental lapses. So we’ll give up an easy basket. We can’t have those mental breakdowns like that, especially against a team like [Prescott]. They had all their horses tonight and knew what they needed to do.”
