From elections and new faces in town to more talk about sewers and the future of State Route 260, 2012 produced some headlines in Camp Verde. Here’s a look back at some of the top news stories this year.

January

? The 112th annual National Audubon Society bird count wrapped up. Volunteers monitor specific areas to get an idea of the population levels of migratory winter birds in the region.

? Camp Verde was officially designated the geographic center of Arizona by the Arizona Professional Land Surveyors. The Camp Verde Town Council eventually met in the Verde Lakes clubhouse, making its “town hall” the closest of any incorporated community to the actual center, which is in a rather inaccessible location. The town went on to receive a special monument in April.
