Marauders capitalize on foe’s mistakes

The young but skilled Marauders played hard put up a fight defensively and handed their cross-valley and divisional rival a loss.

The Mingus Union High School boys soccer team [3-1] beat the Sedona Red Rock High School Scorpions [2-2], 4-2, on a cold Thursday, Dec. 13, evening at SRRHS.

Both teams capitalized on each other’s small mistakes and players on both sides of the field demonstrated skill and talent of the game.

“The kids did pretty well,” said Cade Densmore, the Marauders’ head coach. “We made a few mistakes and paid for it. And we couldn’t take advantage of some obvious opportunities, but it was good learning experience, and we are continuing to gain communication as a team.”

The ball was in Scorpions territory for the first part of the game. Seven minutes in, Cristian Escobar of MUHS scored with the assist made by Omar Carrillo.

Scorpions freshmen Francisco Hernandez played great defense after the goal that got the ball out of the penalty box. Rueben Contreras of MUHS attempted a shot, but Scorpions goalkeeper Wade Adams got the save.
