YCSO rescues a couple couples

Published:

Two married couples were assisted by the Yavapai County Sheriff’s Office in separate hiking incidents Oct. 14 around Sedona.

According to the YCSO, the two calls for assistance were received 15 minutes apart.

The first call came in at about 6:15 p.m. from a married couple on Cathedral Rock. The husband, 58, and wife, 46, started their hike around 2 p.m. but became lost after sunset. While no medical attention was required, according to YCSO, the wife indicated she sustained injuries to her feet from cactus thorns.

The couple was eventually located with the assistance of a YCSO Forest Patrol officer and team members from Verde Search and Rescue. The two were located around 8:45 p.m. After approximately one hour they were returned to the trailhead.

The second call for assistance came in around 6:30 p.m., according to the YCSO, and was made by a couple visiting the area from northern California, according to YCSO Media Coordinator Dwight D’Evelyn.
