Cheerleaders chosen to represent U.S. in London

Published:

??Three Camp Verde High School cheerleaders will be representing the Verde Valley all the way across the Atlantic Ocean.

Senior Aimee Oium and sophomores Makayla Sallee and Haley Teague were named Universal Cheer Association All-American cheerleaders this summer and have been invited to London to participate in the 2013 London New Year’s Day Tour and Parade by the Universal Cheer Association.

“It feels really good,” Sallee said. “This honor has made me feel better about myself.”

“It’s a great feeling,” Oium said. “I’m a senior this year, and I have made [this honor] three out of four years. So I am excited to make it three times.”

In order to receive the UCA All-American title, a cheerleader must perform the Xtreme Routine Dance. This dance is choreographed by the UCA and is taught to the girls the first day of the four-day camp. On the third day, the girls must perform it to perfection by themselves. They must also perform an All-American cheer and their best jumps. Only 12 percent of the camp gets chosen as an All-American.
