Construction confusion closes museum

Published:

The Clemenceau Heritage Museum will close its doors through the month of July due to reduced visitor traffic since construction began on Willard Street at the end of May.

The intersection of Mingus Avenue and Willard Street in front of the museum has been closed to through traffic or made use of detours since that time, making it more difficult for visitors to drive to the museum.

“Last week we had only four visitors, and it is harder and harder to get to the museum to volunteer,” Museum Board Member Connie Phillips said. “We have no sales in our little shop. Last week was the worst.”

Because of shifting traffic patterns, Phillips said museum staff have had a difficult time giving consistent directions to visitors.
