The Camp Verde Marshal’s Office is investigating the suspicious death of a homeowner in Camp Verde.
On Wednesday, Aug. 25 around 12:30 p.m., Camp Verde Marshal’s Office deputies received a call asking them to perform a welfare check on the owner of a home in the 3500 block of West Northern Avenue in Camp Verde, Camp Verde Marshal Corey Rowley said.
According to a press release from the Marshal’s Office, when deputies arrived at the house they discovered the remains of a person in the backyard.
Rowley said once officers discovered the scene they obtained a search warrant and Camp Verde Marshal’s detectives began their investigation.
“When officers responded, we closed off the property and obtained a search warrant,” he said.
Lt. Stephen Butler said the victim, who appears to be a female around the age of 68, is believed to be the owner of the house she was found in.
The Yavapai County Sheriff’s Office Crime Scene Unit was called in to assist in the investigation and both the interior and exterior of the residence were examined and processed by crime scene techs to look for any indication as to the victim’s cause of death.
“It’s an ongoing investigation,” Bulter said. “We have assistance from Yavapai County crime scene techs and medical examiner investigators on scene currently working this.”
The victim’s remains have been sent to the Yavapai County Medical Examiner’s Officer for examination and possible identification. Rowley said an autopsy has been scheduled for Friday, Aug. 26 and they hope to have more information about her cause of death in the coming weeks.
Authorities say the death does appear to be suspicious, though they do not believe the public at large is in danger.
“At this time, there is no believed threat to our citizens,” Rowley said.
