Yavapai County Community Health Services will offer the PreventT2 lifestyle change program to Verde Valley residents. Prevent T2 is part of the National Diabetes Prevention Program, led by the Center for Disease Control and Prevention, and is proven to prevent or delay type 2 diabetes.
The CDC estimates that more than one in three adults — 96 million Americans — have prediabetes. More than eight in 10 adults with prediabetes don’t know they have it. Prediabetes increases the risk of type 2 diabetes, heart disease and stroke.
In PreventT2, participants work with a trained YCCHS health educator to learn the skills and strategies needed to eat healthier, become more physically active, manage stress and overcome barriers that can get in the way of sustainable and lasting changes. PreventT2 provides a supportive and motivating group setting, where participants celebrate their successes and find ways to overcome obstacles.
PreventT2 will meet for 26 sessions over the course of the year and will be held on Wednesdays at the Cottonwood Public Library, located at 100 S. 6th Street in Cottonwood. Sessions will be held from 1 to 2 p.m. There is no cost to enroll in the program.
To learn more about PreventT2, please attend an information session on March 5, at 1 p.m. at the library. PreventT2 begins March 12. Interested participants can register at the first session.
