The Yavapai County Board of Supervisors has announced the appointment of District 5 Supervisor Mary Mallory as the new chairwoman of the Yavapai County Board of Supervisors, effective Feb. 5.

Mallory succeeds District 2 Supervisor James Gregory, who was elected chairman on Jan. 1 who is resigning Wednesday, Feb. 19, to become police chief in Williams.

Mallory has represented District 5 since July 19, 2015. She has a long history of public service and community involvement in Yavapai County.

“Mary Mallory is a dedicated public servant with a deep understanding of the issues facing Yavapai County,” Gregory said. “Her experience and leadership will be invaluable as we continue to serve the residents of our county.”

Mallory said she was honored to be appointed as chairwoman and looked forward to working with her colleagues on the board to address the challenges and opportunities facing the county.

“I am committed to serving the people of Yavapai County and ensuring that our county remains a great place to live, work and raise a family,” Mallory said.

“While the tradition of vice-chair taking the place as chairman is still very much alive, I decline the privilege,” said District 1 Supervisor Brooks Compton , who was elected vice chairman. “This important position is critical to the success of this board and wanting to lean on Supervisor Mallory’s years of experience and grace, I am nominating her to serve as our new chair.”
