Third-place Teague losing ground to Nevarez in Mingus Union school board race

Newcomer Rev. Frank Nevarez has been gaining ground on incumbent Carol Anne Teague, who fell from second-most vote-getter to third as votes are being counted. 59,079 votes remain uncounted in Yavapai County, with about 15,000 in the Cottonwood area.

There are six candidates running for three seats on the Mingus Union High School District Governing Board: James Ariola, Taylor Bell, Ashley Koepnick, Rev. Frank Nevarez, incumbent Carol Anne Teague and Joe Wegwert, Ph.D.

Koepnick has a substantial lead in the race. Bell has the second-most number of votes.

The race for the third seat is still up in the air. Teague initially has the second-most number of votes, based on early voting tablulated in the hours after polls closed, but as day-of votes are tablulated, she has slipped in to third place and now only has a narrow lead over Nevarez.

Ballot drops on Wednesday, Nov. 6 and Thursday, Nov. 7, have significantly favored Nevarez over Teague, while adding more to the lead of Koepnick and Bell.
