Clark Memorial Library kicks off the summer with ‘Adventure Begins at Your Library’ event June 8

The Clark Memorial Library will be hosting a summer reading program from Saturday, June 8, to Saturday, July 20. The theme is “Adventure Begins at Your Library.”

The kickoff event will take place on Saturday, June 8, from 1 to 2 p.m. with magician Jolly Roger, preceded by storytime for kids from noon to 1 p.m. Snacks and water will be provided and children under the age 8 must have supervision.

Participants ages 13 and over will be shown how to grow their own oyster mushrooms and mushroom grow bags will be available for pickup. Kids can incubate their mushrooms and watch them fruit over the course of the program. A bulletin board will be available for kids to report on their progress, troubleshoot issues and share photographs.

Each Tuesday will be Sustainable Tuesday, and all ages will meet at 1 p.m. to learn about sustainability topics from a local expert. Wednesdays will be Crafternoon Wednesdays for all ages at 1 p.m., which allows kids can bring along a craft project they are working on or use supplied materials.

Thursdays will be Double Feature Thursdays with movies starting at 2 p.m. with popcorn. Sci-fi movie nights will start at 5 p.m. and will have popcorn, snacks and a raffle. Fridays will be STEAM Fridays at 12 p.m. for ages seven and older, consisting of a one-hour STEAM activity each week, including bird identification, gardening, paper airplanes and geodes.

Saturdays will be Storytime Saturdays with a kids’ and family storytime at noon with Marianne and tai chi every Saturday at 10:30 a.m.
