Mingus Union High School ends at noon due to sewer problems affecting school’s bathrooms

The Mingus Union High School District notified parents just before noon on Tuesday, Dec. 12, that the school would be ending classes at noon due to severe plumbing problem.

“Today we encountered an unexpected plumbing issue within the school premises which requires immediate attention and repair,” stated an email sent to parents. “The plumbing disruption is caused by an invasive root system which has impacted the number of restrooms available to the student body. To ensure the safety and well-being of our students, we have made the decision to implement an early release.”

Dismissal took place at noon and buses will run accordingly, according to the email sent at 11:56 a.m. Some parents received calls earlier in the hour.

“We understand that this may cause an inconvenience and we appreciate your understanding in this matter” MUHS stated in the email. “Our top priority is to resolve the plumbing issue promptly and provide a safe learning environment for all. We will keep you updated on the progress and inform you of any changes or updates.”

The location of the plumbing issue does not impact after-school activities, the school stated.

“By relieving the volume of use during the school day, we will be better able to determine the appropriate next steps to resolve this issue,” the email stated. “Thank you for your cooperation and understanding.”
