Use of the A-F letter system is required by federal and state law. The federal Every Student Succeeds Act of 2015 requires states to measure school performance using comparable and reliable information across all schools. The grading system attempts to quantify student growth, proficiency on the Arizona’s Academic Standards Assessment or A C T, English language proficiency and growth, indicators measuring if a student is ready for employment and high school graduation rates.
