Preston W. James, 97, of Cottonwood, died Aug. 15.
Born in Clarkdale and raised in Cottonwood, he served as a U.S. Navy motor machinist from 1943 to 1946 and achieved a ranking of petty officer 3rd class. Serving in the South Pacific Theater, Asiatic Theater and the Philippine Liberation, he was part of the U.S. Naval amphibious forces during World War II. He retired from APS.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 73 years, Ruth.
Services have been held.
