Camp Verde to have all-woman council

Published:

On Aug. 17, the Camp Verde Town Council certified newly-elected and re-elected members of council, making it the first time in the town’s history that an all-woman council will serve.

Newly-elected Councilwoman Wendy Escoffier will join re-elected incumbents Mayor Dee Jenkins and Councilwomen Robin Whatley and Marie Moore as they take their seats alongside current Councilwomen Jackie Baker and Cris McPhail officially on Wednesday, Nov. 16.

Current Vice Mayor Joe Butner did not run for re-election. Council will elect a new vice mayor at the first meeting.

“I look forward to working with all of our candidate elects as they join their seats,” Camp Verde Town Clerk Cindy Pemberton said. “This is a wonderful historical moment for the Town of Camp Verde as this will be an all-woman council.”

Pemberton stated there was a 45% turnout of registered voters in the Aug. 2 Primary Election, as the town received 3,204 votes out of a pool of 7,040 registered voters.
