Larson Newspapers is seeking a full-time reporter at the Cottonwood Journal Extra and The Camp Verde Journal, two weekly newspapers serving 8,400 and 1,500 readers respectively in the Verde Valley. We have a small, hardworking staff at a long-time family-owned newspaper that has served the Verde Valley since 1963. A journalism degree or experience working at a newspaper is necessary. 

Knowledge of AP Style required. Knowledge of social media posting of news content is also preferred.

We have two full-time photojournalists, but basic photography skills are a plus. The position is full-time reporter, 40 hours/week total. The beat is roughly eight stories per week: Hard news, local government, water issues, environmentalism, police/fire, tourism, plus a few feature or news stories per month for tab publications. The beat includes regular news stories in Cottonwood and Camp Verde, and additional stories in Clarkdale, Jerome, Rimrock, Lake Montezuma and Cornville and feature stories, lifestyles, profiles, arts and other general assignment and breaking news coverage across the Verde Valley.

Stories with regional impact may also be published in the Sedona Red Rock News, The Village View and ancillary tabs as they apply.

Our readership is very engaged on social media and our websites, journalaz.com and redrocknews.com and we take pride in beginning a community newspaper with the largest readership of any publication in the Verde Valley.

Our staff earns individual awards from the Arizona Newspapers Association for photography, page layout and design, investigative reporting, newswriting, copy editing, individual and team sports coverage, website, headlines, community service and we usually win the 1st, 2nd or 3rd place prize for overall General Excellence.

Reporters can choose to live anywhere in the Verde Valley (Camp Verde, Clarkdale, Cottonwood, Jerome or Sedona, or the unincorprated areas of Page Springs, Cornville, Rimrock, Lake Montezuma, the Village of Oak Creek, Oak Creek Canyon).
