The Camp Verde Marshal’s Office is currently investigating the theft of thousands of dollars from the Camp Verde Little League.
On May 29, Camp Verde Little League board members reported that around $40,000 was missing from the group’s operational funds, Camp Verde Marshal’s Office Detective Dustin Richardson said.
“It was brought to our attention that the funds were not in the account like they should have been,” he said.
Over the course of the investigation, Jacquilynn Renee Hedges, a former Camp Verde Little League board member, was identified as a person of interest in the case. Hedges is being sought for questioning, but her location is unknown to police at this time.
Detectives learned that whoever is responsible for taking the missing money would have emptied the accounts of the $40,000 starting in 2019 and going through 2021, according to a press release from the department.
“We just haven’t been able to talk to her,” Richardson said of Hedges. “We just had some questions that we wanted to ask and are trying to get to a certain point in this investigation. We haven’t been able to locate her.”
Hedges, who was on the board of the Camp Verde Little League for several years, is not the only person of interest in the case.
“There’s a couple of other folks of interest,” Richardson said. “She’s one of them, but there are some things that might get connected within that puzzle.”
Those found to be responsible for the missing money will likely be facing felony theft charges due to the large amount of funds that were taken.
CVMO will be releasing updates in its investigation as the situation progresses.
“We’ll try to get all those updates out to you as soon as we can as these things develop,” Richardson said. “I’m thinking that updates will be forthcoming pretty rapidly.”
Current board members of the Camp Verde Little League did not respond to requests for comment by press time.
