Clarkdale-Jerome delays reopening, will decide next week

Published:

Before the holidays, Clarkdale-Jerome School District’s Governing Board voted to delay its in-person start after winter break until Monday, Jan. 11, due to increases coronavirus cases, and concerns about the spread of the virus after the new year.

At a meeting on Tuesday, Jan. 5, the CJSD Governing Board unanimously voted to continue remote learning for at least another week, through Friday, Jan. 15, without setting a return date. The board plans to meet again on Tuesday, Jan. 12, to determine the next course of action.

“We haven’t gotten a lot of information yet, but we’re hearing that tentatively we’re going to have vaccine distribution next week sometime,” CJSD Superintendent Danny Brown said.

Brown added that updates on the vaccine schedule, as well as continued spread of the virus, will allow them to make their determination about the next course of action at Tuesday’s meeting.

“The board will revisit the data during its next regularly scheduled meeting at 6 p.m. next Tuesday, Jan. 12,” Brown said.

The board also discussed potential ways to adjust the hybrid-learning model, including potentially shifting to an A/B model — where only half of students are on campus on alternating days — or other similar models, but that nothing had been decided, leaving that determination for the next meeting.
