“After much consideration and deliberation with our leadership teams, medical professionals, Governing Boards and leaders in our community regarding COVID-19 the following Verde Valley superintendents have decided to close schools for the next two weeks through March 27th, 2020 with continual reassessment for the potential of extended closures,” local superintendents stated in a joint press release at 1 p.m., Sunday, March 15:

● Clarkdale Jerome School District
● Cottonwood-Oak Creek School District
● Mingus Union High School District
● Sedona-Oak Creek Unified School District
With exception:
● Camp Verde Unified School District & Valley Academy for Career and Technology Education will close for one week and re-evaluate on Thursday, March, 19th

This reverses plans on Friday, March 13.
“The Verde Valley school superintendents believe it is important to keep the community updated regarding events that are impacting our schools,” local superintendents stated in a joint press release Friday, March 13. “Our administrative teams and health services departments are closely monitoring the information related to COVID-19. We continue to coordinate with each other, the Yavapai County Community Health Services and Arizona Department of Health Services on a frequent basis.”
“Yesterday, school district superintendents from around the state participated in a conference call with Arizona Gov. Doug Ducey, Arizona Superintendent of Public Instruction Kathy Hoffman and Arizona Department of Health Services Director Dr. Cara Christ.
“Currently, ADHS is NOT recommending school closures or the cancellation of after school activities. Any future decisions of school closures will be made in consultation with each other and with local health officials as we continue to work closely with Yavapai County Community Health Services,”
But the situation has now changed.
“Our maintenance staff provided a deep cleaning of all Verde Valley schools during spring break.
“As of right now there are no identified cases in Yavapai County. In an abundance of caution, our administrative teams are developing contingency plans for educational services in the event we need to close schools in the future.
“Verde Valley school superintendents cannot thank each and every one of you enough for your support during these quickly changing times.
“Please accept our sincere thanks for your patience and support as this situation has continued to quickly evolve in Arizona and across the country. We will continue to provide you with updates as information changes.”
