John James O’Donnell, 78, of Cottonwood, died July 22.

He taught English at Mingus Union High School and coached runners on the school’s track, field and cross country teams.

He served on the Clarkdale Town Council, Verde Valley Fair Board, Mingus Connection, Mingus Foundation and Verde River Valley Nature Organization. He served as Mingus Union Education Association president, and volunteered with the Arizona Democratic Party.

He is survived by his wife, Deanna; son, Sean; sister Mary Alice Dyess; and four nieces.
