Candidate Q&A: Jackie Baker values Camp Verde’s rich history

Published:

With the 2018 election season in full swing, those vying for seats on the Camp Verde Town Council were asked a variety of questions pertaining to issues facing the town — both today and in the future. Jackie Baker is running for mayor of Camp Verde.

Q: What makes you qualified to be mayor?

Primarily, what makes me qualified to be mayor is my nearly 18 years as a Town Council member. During those years, councils have addressed and resolved many issues to help Camp Verde become what it is today.

Q: What makes Camp Verde great?

Our history, our 18 miles of Verde River, our location, our Yavapai-Apache Nation, Fort Verde State Historic Park and the many other state and national parks in the area. More importantly, is the citizens who care about Camp Verde.

Q: What is your greatest accomplishment in your time on the Town Council?

In 18 years on the council, there have been many accomplishments. For example: A new Camp Verde Marshal’s Office building, a beautiful new library, improvements on State Route 260, main street beautification and other infrastructure improvements, just to name a few. More importantly, all of these accomplishments could not have been achieved by one person. It took a team of all council members working for our residents to improve the community.

Q: What will you do to keep Camp Verde affordable for its residents?

Focusing on marketing and good and fair competition, Camp Verde will be able to attract economic development to provide affordable housing, services and needed revenue for the community.

Q: How do you hope to bring in business to Camp Verde?

Having already created an Economic Development Department and currently waiting for the results from research and consultant companies, Camp Verde is already focused on bringing business to the community. My goal is to continue to work in this direction. To achieve this goal, I will make certain that the tools and policies are in place for staff to be successful.
