Mingus baseball loses region title hopes

Published:

After being swept in a doubleheader at Lee Williams High School on Friday, April 20, the Mingus Union High School baseball team lost its chance at winning the Grand Canyon Region.

Heading into the matchups, Mingus and Lee Williams were first and second, respectively, in the region. Lee Williams won game one 13-2 and game two 12-7, catapulting the Volunteeers into first place with a 9-3 record.

The Marauders fell to 8-3 in region play, and hosted Prescott High School on Monday, April 23. Results were unavailable at press time, but a victory against Bradshaw Mountain would level the teams’ region records.

Despite that, with Lee Williams holding the head-to-head tiebreaker, it would still win the region. Mingus fell to No. 13 in the Conference 4A rankings, and will likely travel for a first round state tournament game on Saturday, April 28. Brackets were not available before press time.
