Dutch Bros. Coffee may be getting a call from Camp Verde adolescents soon, following the second gathering of the youth council when it outlined priorities for future projects on Saturday, Feb. 10 at the Camp Verde Community Library.
The Town of Camp Verde, in partnership with the library, Parks and Recreation and Economic Development departments, is sponsoring the program which is still in its infancy.
As a petition to bring Dutch Bros. to Camp Verde may come to fruition, other community plans like fundraising events and a handicapped-accessible swing are also in stages of discussion.
Seventh-grader Chandler Plante said he has already raised $190 from local businesses to raise money for the swing and wants to share his efforts with the rest of the council.
“I’ve done stuff like this before to help families whose houses have burned down,” he said. Plante said he needs a total of $4,000 and wants to put the swing in Butler Park.
Teen Librarian Zack Garcia said once word gets out about fundraising, he believes both individuals and businesses will put money toward the cause. Other fundraising activities suggested included face painting, selling bracelets and hide-and-seek activities. The youth council also plans to approach the Camp Verde Town Council for funding.
Some other top priorities the council is looking at is an LGBTQ club and low-income fort buildings that could serve as an activity during the town’s Fort Verde Days. Youth council also discussed various ways they could get in touch with Dutch Bros. Coffee and garner interest to build a location in Camp Verde.
Steven Moore suggested starting a petition or writing a letter to the corporate office.
Economic Development Specialist Sebra Choe said she would reach out to the corporate office to set up a video call meeting.
