The Cottonwood Police Department conducted saturation patrols targeting drunk or impaired drivers during the holiday season between Nov. 23 and Jan. 3.

A total of 74 contacts were made. Most were made in the Cottonwood area, Cottonwood Police Officer Roger Scarim said. Some contacts were made in Camp Verde, Sedona and Clarkdale.

“During saturation patrols, we are looking for traffic violations,” Scarim said. “We concentrate on one area per detail.”

Of the 74 contacts, six were identified as designated drivers. One was charged with an aggravated DUI.

These numbers have stayed relatively consistent in past years, with 2016 having one driver arrested for an aggravated DUI. Two were charged on suspicion of an aggravated DUI in 2015.
