The Mingus Union High School golf team played two matches during the last week, beginning with a match against Page High School and Flagstaff High School on Tuesday, Oct. 3, at Lake Powell National Golf Course.
The Marauders were third overall [+41/185] while Page was second [+39/183] and Flagstaff first [+25/169].
Senior Ethan Brogdon, sophomore Noah Daher and junior Justin Tanner were the top finishing Marauders, carding a 10-over 46. Sophomore Cameron Macheck was in just behind at 11-over 47 and senior Tyre Kim was a 20-over 57, with one bad hole inflating his score.
On Thursday, Oct. 6, they hosted three Division I opponents in Brophy College Preparatory, Horizon High School and Mountain Ridge High School at Verde Santa Fe Golf Course.
Those schools proved to have top talent, with Brophy Prep’s Nate Anderson the No. 1 finisher carding a 4-under 33; second and third place, also from Brophy Prep, an even 36; and fourth place, from Horizon, a 1-over 38.
Both Tanner and Brogdon finished at a 5-over 41, but their efforts were only good for a tie for eighth place. Daher tied for 10th at a 6-over while Kim was tied for 13th [+8/44] and freshman Treyson Peters [+12/48] tied for 18th.
