Camp Verde High School Athletic Director and girls basketball coach Mark Showers was recently honored as the 2A Central Region Coach of the Year. Showers led the Cowboys to an 18-8 overall record and 8-3 in regional play, as well as a berth to the Arizona Interscholastic Association 2A State Championship.

During the entire season three of the starters on the team were underclassmen, but still claimed second place in the region.

The Cowboys beat visiting Glendale Preparatory Academy 24-7 on Thursday, April 13. Senior Tiauna Day and freshman Bennett Holm each finished with three RBI. Seniors Kayla Hackett and Amber Dodge, as well as sophomore Tyra Smith, were two for two at the plate. Smith finished with two stolen bases and two RBI, too.

Thirteen first-inning runs for Camp Verde put the game to bed right away, and also accumulated 20 hits. The starters played just a couple of innings, and three different pitchers were used.
