Camp Verde High School’s girls basketball team beat visiting Glendale Preparatory Academy 33-25 to pick up its most important victory of the season on Friday, Feb. 10, at Camp Verde.
The Cowboys [18-7, 7-3 2A Central] beat the Griffins, a 2A Central Section rival, in their Arizona Interscholastic Association 2A Conference Play-In game, which qualified them for the 2A State Championship.
In both of the teams’ matchups earlier this season, the visiting team came away victorious. On Jan. 6 Camp Verde won at the Griffins’ gym, 48-37, before they returned the favor on Jan. 24, winning 40-31.
With the victory, the Cowboys were seeded No. 10 in the 2A State Championship, and will face off with familiar foe Phoenix Country Day School at noon on Friday, Feb. 17, at Yavapai Community College.
Camp Verde lost 30-16 to the Eagles on Dec. 2 at the Phoenix Country Day School Desert Classic.
