Prior to the opening of Camp Verde Community Library’s massive new facility, CVCL Director Kathy Hellman promised an increase in programs — many specifically designed to bring in students, families and individuals interested in science, technology, engineering, art and mathematics subjects.
Youth Services Manager Nadia Torabi echoed this sentiment in August, when the library received a Library Service and Technology Act grant to grow its early literacy programs. With the funds, the library plans to expand library services by incorporating music, movement, culture and technology into programming.
The library dedicates each Friday to STEAM education. From 1 to 2:30 p.m., participants and staff do hands-on projects to instill elements applicable to technical fields, accentuating creativity and critical thinking skills through exposure to the arts.
“Speed: Art in the Fast Lane,” a presentation by Prescott Art Docent Liz Stark on Tuesday, Jan. 10 at 10 a.m., presents what CVCL Library Specialist of Adult Programs Carson Ralton called a “lively, fun, educational and fast-paced talk.”
In keeping with the Prescott Art Docents’ mission — “to share the love of art with children and adults throughout our community and to promote the art museum experience” — Stark will be examining how artists portray the speed of machines, vehicles, humans and animals using line and color.
“[The] presentation will reveal the connection between art and the things that surround us,” Ralston said.
The presentation is intended to spur participants’ imagination, encouraging them to see, hear and feel the speed portrayed by painters, sculptors and photographers.
