Concrete truck accident closes part of SR 89A

Traffic had to be rerouted in Cottonwood Sept. 15, after a concrete mixing truck suffered a serious structural failure.

The truck, operated by Camp Verde-based Arizona Jobsite Concrete, was making a right turn onto State Route 89A from State Route 260 a little before 1:30 p.m. when the bolts and metal holding the large rotating concrete mixer gave way.

The mixer didn’t fall off into the road, but it did come out of its position and created a possible safety hazard.

The section of road was shut down by Cottonwood police and the Cottonwood Fire Department.

Traffic through that section of the highway and on to Sedona was detoured.

Crews then cleaned up hydraulic fluid that had spilled onto the road after the metal gave way.

An investigator from the Arizona Department of Transportation was on the scene to look into the accident.

No one was injured but a number of bystanders were gathered around the area.

“The bolts just broke,” said Randy Torman, owner of the concrete company.
