US Army’s intelligence band returns with variety

Published:

The military depends on the work of the men and women in its intelligence department. They also like to provide a bit of entertainment.

Based out of Fort Huachuca, down near Sierra Vista, the U.S. Army Military Intelligence Corps Band is coming to Cottonwood.

Some of the band will be swinging by the Cottonwood Village assisted living center Monday, Sept. 7, in the afternoon.

The full band will be performing at 6 p.m. at the Evangel Worship Center, 1380 E. Mingus Ave.

The performance will be varied, said Mark Tufte, who helped bring the band back to the Verde Valley.

The event is titled “American Music, American Soldier.”

“It’s a mix of concert band music, ’40s big band pieces, the blues,” Tufte said.

It’s been awhile since the band has visited the area, Tufte said. The event was set up after the band reached out to Tufte.

Tufte was a board member of the Verde Valley Concert Association, a group that works to promote musical performances and bring acts to the area. The association is in limbo at the moment.
