Scout works to restore washed out nature trail

Published:

Brigham Peterson is 14 but is already taking on some important responsibilities.

The Cottonwood teen was leading a group of people into a nature trail over the weekend out behind Clarkdale-Jerome School.

It wasn’t to just take in the sights.

Peterson is working on helping to restore and protect the trail as part of his Eagle Scout project.

Decked out in his Boy Scout uniform, Petersen was showing people where to swing their shovels and pickaxes to help change the path of a stream that runs through the trail.

It’s a pleasant spot so sit or walk right inside Clarkdale.

Scott Jacobson is the principal of the school and is about to become superintendent after the first of the year.

Jacobson applauded Peterson for his efforts in keeping the nature trail area usable by the community.

“It’s rare to have running water like this in Arizona,” Jacobson said.

The water flows out of the Josephine Tunnel in Jerome, Jacobson said.

The water cuts across the school property and empties out in the trail.

The path of the water had been spilling out over the trail, making it difficult to travel.
