A library isn’t just all about books on shelves.
True, there are computers and a variety of media in most libraries these days, but the Cottonwood Public Library is working on expanding what’s available.
Starting in October, the library will be featuring artists inside its doors.
That doesn’t just involve paintings hanging on a wall, but artists themselves in the library creating works while the public can watch and learn.
“It’s much more than just paintings,” said Kyle Smith, a library assistant who brought the idea to Cottonwood.
Smith said he learned about the idea at a meeting of library employees from around the area.
“I thought it was fantastic,” Smith said. “I ran it past my supervisors and they thought it was a great idea.”
The library has since been looking for local artists to participate in the program and so far, Smith said the response has been good.
“We’re already booked through December,” Smith said.
Many different types of artists are already lined up to show their skills and craft to the public, including not just painters, but others who work in wood, crochet, clay and other media.
